The Woodlands Concert Band
Good Morning,

I would first like to thank all the band members who were a part of the audience on Saturday for the concerto competition live final auditions. I think that they would agree with me that we have never had this quality among the five finalists. Stunning and exceptional would not be hyperbole for the winners. I continue to be amazed at the level that high school musicians are attaining.

We will be using a small group of players to accompany the three winning soloists. Section leaders, if not already done, will be informing who will be performing the one-on-a-part accompaniments. For those people, please have the three new pieces downloaded and available for rehearsal on Thursday. We will be rehearsing the full band music from 7-8, then rehearse the accompaniments from 8-9. The order of the accompaniments will start with the largest number of players.

We have a good start with the wind section for the orchestra being formed for the Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the Faure Requiem in the fall. If you are available, please respond to this email with your name/email/phone. Here are the parts we still need to fill:

Bassoon I
Bassoon II
French Horn IV
Trombone I
Trombone III
Timpani
Percussion II (Rachmaninoff only)
Percussion III(Rachmaninoff only)
Percussion IV(Rachmaninoff only)
(I realize the percussion were off last week and will bring the sign up list on Thursday)

Here is the rehearsal order of the music for Thursday:

AMERICAN SALUTE
FANTASIA NOVA (mvt I)
FANTASIA NOVA (mvt. II)
SOLO DE CONCOURS - Messager/Snaveley
CLARINET CONCERTO - Mozart/Sparke
CLARINET CONCERTO - Mozart/Rumbelow

Take care,
Paul Worosello
