Music is available to download under "Music Library Downloads" for our first rehearsal on August 24. This will give section leaders ample time to assign parts to players in their section. The theme of the concert is "Classics!" and will contain some important early works for winds like:
Fanfare from "La Peri" - Dukas
Second Suite in F - Holst
We will also be playing Third Suite by Robert Jager and will pair that with the world premier of A Festive Tribute written by Bill Brusick. Jager is a lifelong friend and mentor to Bill and this was written in 2019 in honor of Jager's 80th birthday. Bill has incorporated melodies from Jager's Third Suite.
This was supposed to be premiered in the Spring of 2020 by Tennessee Tech, where Jager spent most of his career as a professor of compostition. And we all remember what happened at the time. Coming out of Covid, the university had significant issues with the music department and the school did not have the personnel to prepare this difficult piece. It appeared that this work would never receive a public performance. That will change in October.
It is not known if Robert Jager will be able to attend in person. He supposedly has given up travel since the time of Covid. Regardless, this will be live streamed at our concert at Trinity Lutheran on October 15, he will be recognized, and he will be able to hear it one way or another. (On a side note, the calendar is availbe on the member's site also).
I have sent recordings to Mike Brashear (Executive Secretary) and George Little (President) of the Texas Bandmasters Association along with a note indicating that we are interested and available to participate in their convention this upcoming July. We will know something by the end of September, beginning of October.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again,
