I wanted to touch base with things that are happening while the band takes a brief hiatus.

Lone Start College Montgomery will be giving a concert this Friday, March 13 in their auditorium. All performers need an appreciative audience and I know they would love to have anyone from the band attend this free concert. Eleven of our band members will be playing in this concert. Rehearsal was last night and the band sounds great. Come enjoy an hour of music Friday night at 7:00 PM.

Live finals for the concerto contest will be held in the Lone Star Montgomery band hall at 10:00 AM on March 28. This will be to select the order of 1st ($1,000.00), 2nd ($500), and 3rd ($300) place winners. All are cordially invited to attend this event that will last less than an hour. An audience will more accurately replicate the performance environment for these amazing high school musicians who will be performing with the Woodlands Concert Band on our May concert.

Here is an update on the GoFundMe account for Jaclyn Perkins. As of this morning, the band had raised $3,400 with another $1,042 still to be deposited from the donations received at our concert a week ago. Thank you, Jenny Pickering, for setting this up. Jaclyn sent me this message and I would like to share it with you:

“I hope the latest concert went well! The percussion parts looked quite fun, so I was sad to miss it.
If you’d be willing to share this with the band, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone and share an update about my treatment.
I had a double mastectomy on the 25th and followed up with my surgeon this morning. They removed 8 lymph nodes during surgery and all 8 came back clear. The spots in my breast that had a small amount of residual cancer had wide clear margins, which means they got everything and I am currently cancer free!
Because of my age and genetic status, I will still be getting 6 weeks of radiation as a precaution, but I am excited to be on the road to recovery. I look forward to getting back to playing once I have better range of motion and am hopeful to play in the next concert in some capacity.
I am floored by the generosity of everyone who has donated to the GoFundMe set up by Jenny. I’m sure there are many members of the band who have experienced the toll that cancer or chronic disease can take physically, emotionally, and financially on a family, but my journey has been made easier because of the kindness of others over and over again since my diagnosis.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, sent well wishes, prayed, and checked in on me during this time. I am grateful to be part of a community as supportive as this one and look forward to making music with you again soon. “

First rehearsal for the next concert will be Thursday, April 9, 7:00 PM, Lone Star College Montgomery band hall. In addition to featuring the three winners of our concerto contest, we will be celebrating the Grand Old Flag, the 250th birthday of the United States.
