The final concert of the season for the Woodlands Concert Band was held Sunday, May 31, 2026. The top three place winners of the 8th concerto competition for area high school students were featured on the concert.
Winners for 2026 are:
- 3rd Place: Daniel Garcia – alto saxophone, Kempner High School, Fort Bend ISD
- 2nd Place: Will Cranston – trombone, George Ranch High School, Lamar Consolidated ISD
- 1st Place: Gabriel Gonzalez – clarinet, College Park High School, Conroe ISD
The competition is open to any high school student in Montgomery, Harris, and Fort Bend Counties. The solos selected must have a wind band accompaniment. Students upload their performance to YouTube with a private link. Due to the success over the past years, we are expanding the competition to showcase more of the amazing talent in the Houston area. The competition this year will be divided into two groups, woodwinds and brass/percussion. Each group will have up to three winners selected. A panel of five judges will evaluate the YouTube videos and select five finalists for each group from the submissions. Those finalists will perform a live audition and up to three winners in each group will be selected to perform with the band. Cash prizes of $300, $500, and $1,000 are given to the winners of each group who perform their solos with the band accompanying them. The concert on April 4, 2027 will be solely dedicated to showcase their talents.
